Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t just palace formalities and polite handshakes — apparently, they’re also early-morning cold-water chaos.
The 43-year-old Prince of Wales recently revealed that one of his favorite hobbies to do with his wife is polar plunge swimming, a pastime he insists leaves them feeling “invincible” once the initial shock — and shouts — wear off.
While speaking to young environmental ambassadors from Marine Conservation Society during a beach walk in Colwyn Bay on Friday, William admitted the freezing ritual has become a staple activity for him and Kate.
“I love it, but there is a lot of yelling involved when you first get in,” he said with a laugh. “You feel brilliant afterward, though. That part makes the noise worth it.”
During the visit, William also met members of a local cold-swimming community, Colwyn Bay Blue Bits, and later spoke directly with three regular members of the group — Chrissy Bolton, Georgia Daniels, and Midge Owen Smith.

William added that cold-water dips held equal appeal during trips to both Scotland and North Wales, saying the habit has fully won him over after Kate introduced him to it years ago.
From “Crazy” to Comfort Zone
The hobby originally raised eyebrows inside his own house.
Back in 2023, Kate — formally known as Catherine, Princess of Wales — openly shared her love for freezing swims during an episode of the sports interview podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby. At the time, William teased that her love for icy waters sounded completely mad.
Middleton had said: “I love swimming, and cold swimming most of all. Rain, dark skies, freezing seas — doesn’t matter. I’ll still go looking for the coldest water I can find.”
William interrupted her then to add: “The colder, the better,” confirming the phrase has now become one of their shared mantras.

What once sounded like chaos has clearly become tradition.
Family Days and Film-Set Surprises
Outside of the waves, the couple enjoy a full family life with their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Earlier this year, the family made a surprise trip to the set of the Harry Potter film set. The visit was described as personal and low-key, timed around a single evening of filming that allowed them to meet cast members and watch production up close.
The couple also enjoyed a sporty summer highlight, stepping out for the finals of Wimbledon 2025 – Finals Day. The royal family appeared in colour-coordinated outfits, a detail that fans online applauded for adding a relatable, stylish touch to one of the summer’s most watched public events.
Yelling, icy seas, iconic cinema, and centre-court power walks — if nothing else, Prince William and Kate Middleton are turning public expectations down and their own volume up.
